On July 14, 2025, industry analysts warned that Apple may require a leadership shift to stay competitive in the fast-paced world of artificial intelligence. While current CEO Tim Cook has led Apple to massive commercial success—especially in iPhone sales—analysts from LightShed Partners believe a more product-focused CEO might now be essential.
Analysts Walter Piecyk and Joe Galone noted that Cook’s operational leadership has been valuable, with Apple selling over $2 trillion worth of iPhones under his tenure. However, as AI becomes a central battleground in tech, Apple could risk falling behind without leadership that’s deeply involved in product innovation.
Meanwhile, Sabih Khan, an India-born executive, has been appointed as Apple’s new Chief Operating Officer, taking over from Jeff Williams.
